How Our Clients Feel…
“I’ve worked with Polyphone Studios over the past 10 years and they never disappoint. Every project sounds better than the last..”
“Whenever I want my new music to sound tight and professional, I have it mixed by Polyphone Studios. They always seem to know what I want to hear...”
“I would most definitely agree that Polyphone Studios’ sound engineering skills are at the highest rate! Not only do they produce clean, crisp and professional audio, but they also know how to listen to and draw out the nuances of any sound. When you’re working with them you are truly working with an artist. An artist who can take your song and breath all the life and emotion it embodies into the 3.5 minutes or so it takes to listen to the recording. Which is no wonder since they’re musicians themselves.
The end result is a masterpiece that accurately represents you and your unique sound.”
“I had been working on a project for a while, and was struggling with my drum tracks in the mix. I decided to reach out to Polyphone Studios, and after one conversation about what I was going for, they were able to take what I had and not only mixdown my drums, but leveled out my other tracks and enhanced my vocals. Not only was it beyond what I had expected, but they got my song sounding at a level I didn’t know was possible!”
It’s all about what comes out of the speakers…
We originally started Polyphone Studios in Phoenix, Arizona as an alternative to paying big bucks for a unenjoyable and limiting audio production experience. Now we’re based in Rapid City, SD, but we work with artists all over the country. Some of our our recent clients are based in California, New York, Connecticut, & Arizona. Our studio is comfortable, laid back, and well-equipped for a variety of audio projects.
Why you need a mixing engineer:
Many artists and bands don't realize going into a studio that most recording studio engineers and producers are not mixing engineers! Mixing is a a whole different science and art, and requires a very different set of tools to do it right. Many recording studios are not even built right for accurately mixing audio.
If you separate the engineering/producing stage (recording your music) from the mixing stage, you will be more satisfied with the results! We can't tell you how many times we've run across bands who left expensive studio sessions with disappointing mixes because the studio engineer, although doing an awesome job engineering and producing, was not the right man to mix the project. There's a reason why most every major label album is separately mixed after tracking by a mixing engineer in a completely different studio. Your music needs an objective third party that can approach your mix with fresh ears, and that job needs to be done in a space that is made specifically for mixing.
Now we're not trying to badmouth studio engineers: some have respectable mixing skills, and some of the work between production and mixing definitely can overlap. But mixing is typically not their strength and focus; they're focused on getting you the best possible recorded sounds. Most of them have invested their time in learning recording & production techniques, and have spent their studio budget capital on expensive recording and production items. They likely haven't invested the same time into learning the science of mixing or invested their money into high-end mixing tools. Knowing how to mix well is an art form that takes years of learning and practice.
Look at hiring a mixing engineer as another necessary piece of your audio project. At the end of the day, all that truly matters is what comes out of the speakers when your music plays. If your mix sounds terrible, it won't matter how much you spent to record on high end equipment.
Here at Polyphone Studios, we know how to get those speakers sounding great.
